An Asia Society Texas Center and Consulate General of India, Houston initiative
Consulate General of India, Houston in collaboration with Asia Society Texas Center, Houston presented a talk by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on ‘Yoga: A Force of Transformation’
HOUSTON – TX – Addressing the UN General Assembly on 27 September 2014, the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi had termed Yoga “an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition” and called on the international community to work “towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” The United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga on Dec 11, 2014.
Consulate General of India, Houston in close partnership with various Houston based Yoga and other institutions, including the Asia Society, organized the first International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2015 at George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston witnessing a turnout of over 3500 from “Houston’s Yoga Family”.
As part of a similar initiative, the Consulate General of India in collaboration with Asia Society presented a talk by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev of Isha Foundation on ‘Yoga: A force of Transformation’ at Asia Society Texas Center, Houston on 22 October, 2015.
It was a sold out event comprising of over 250 guests including members of Consular Corps of Houston, Elected officials and their representatives, Media, Houston-based prominent Yoga gurus, Yoga enthusiasts, Isha Foundation volunteers and general public.
The event began with a welcome address by Asia Society’s Ms. Elizabeth Orton, Senior Director of Operations & Administration. A short video on Isha foundation was played in the Brown Foundation Performing Arts Theater at Asia Society. Consul General, Mr. P Harish gave his greetings to the community on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra. He introduced and welcomed Sadhguru to Houston which was his third visit.
Sadhguru spoke on the definition of Yoga, the Four Paths of Yoga– Karma, Bhakti, Gnana and Kriya, the transformational potential of Yoga and how physical postures represent small part of the framework of Yoga. He gave very interesting and insightful examples on Yoga and its impact on life. The program concluded with a Q&A session where the audience interacted with Sadhguru on various topics.
The gathering at this talk at Asia Society exemplified spirit of harmony, oneness of Yoga and harnessing the power of Yoga for personal transformation.
