On Oct 19, 2015, Mr. Hugh Forrest went through the rules of SXSW – #1 Rule – formulate/create a game plan for the event; Think about what you want to learn, discover, who you want to connect with;

He then went over Founder-focused content (start-ups); Start-up Village – will have all startup related sessions;

SXSW came about in October of 1986. First event held in March 1987.

SXSW has changed in many surprising and meaningful ways since 1987, but at its core, SXSW remains a tool for creative people to develop their careers by bringing together people from around the globe to meet, learn and share ideas. (And maybe have a few once-in-a-lifetime experiences.)

Today it is also a launching pad for new creative content; providing exposure for creators; global networking; providing intellectual and creative intermingling amongst industry leaders;

Folks interested in launching a company at SXSW should have launched their company earlier – before January 1st. It’s not too late to apply for 2017!

SXSW holds variety of events:

SXSW Interactive – 5 days of keynotes, panels, presentations and fun [Includes Tradeshows, Health & MEdTech Expos (great value for Houston’s Health Sciences entrepreneurs; Health and MedTech sessions run Friday March 11-15th) and Gaming Expo]

SXSW all about discovering new and innovative ideas; making career enhancing connections. SXSW will have Accelerator Pitch Competition (has previously raised more than 2.9 Billion in funding).

Application deadline is Friday November 6 for SXSW Accelerator; Only 10% of entries accepted; Release lt at SXSW (for companies releasing at SXSW; can be a startup that is launching during event; or company with new product, service or app); Must have launched by January 1.
