HOUSTON – An extraordinary camaraderie and fellowship was witnessed at the 7th Annual Eid Milan hosted by the Indian Muslims Association of Greater Houston (IMAGH) where 500 guests gathered at the West Chase Marriot on Saturday, July 16 to rejoice and feel uplifted after an undeniably gloomy month of Ramadan that just passed.
Latafath Hussain, president IMAGH, in his message did not mince words in condemning the series of attacks across the nation. “I do not deny that most of the terrorism acts around the world are being perpetrated by people who also call them selves Muslims,” he said.
“The dastards that blow themselves up are not doing because they will be rewarded with 70 virgins in heaven…. I think they do it because they are sickos and have no love for life. And I hope they roast in hell for eternity.”
The IMAGH has been working tirelessly towards their mission to foster amenity across cultures, communities and religions. Since its inception seven years ago IMAGH, parent organization fostered two others: Club 65 and SAYA and together they have 300 members in all. IMAGH’s future plan is to build Seniors Village for the South Asian Community.
Welcoming the gathering, Event Chair Fatima Mawji, a highly respected community worker, spoke of the significance of Id al-Fitr, the day that marks the end of fasting and subsequently the end of the holy month of Ramadan after which follows celebration. Her message was to maintain a balance between faith and worldly obligations. “At this time of global unrest, let us also offer a prayer for peace, safety and security of those living in areas of conflict and instability.” she expressed. The event Co-Chairs were Dr. Yunus Langha and Munir Ibrahim.

His message was ‘unity without uniformity,’ and the power in diversity. Congressman presented a Congressional Certificate and lauded IMAGH’s efforts to promote peace and harmony in the communities. Other dignitaries and leaders present were Harris County Judge Ravi Sandil, State Representative Gene Wu and HCC Trustee Neeta Sane, Abeezar Tyebji, Chairman of BOA, IMAGH, and many Heads of Indo-American organizations.
India’s Consul General, Anupam Ray’s message on Eid Milan day was, ““This is an important occasion to celebrate the secular and plural ethos of India with its linguistic, cultural and religious diversity.”
Asif Dakri, president and CEO, Wallis State Bank supporting the IMAGH initiative of Seniors Village for the South Asian Community, mentioned that project was still in its initial stage. Stressed on the need for such a project he said, “Our last goal of going back evades us.” “When we go back to India it does not feel the same, life is here in the US,” he said.
Paru McGuire, president of Club 65 spoke of the Club’s activities and initiatives. Mohammed Khan, president, South Asian Youth Alliance (SAYA) gave a report on SAYA’s activities and progress.
