Carol Appelbaum founded the Sugar Land Prep, middle and high school in 2009 inspired by her daughter a bright and hardworking student. SLP is a school where student like her daughter Ciara Appelbaum don’t want students to settle for mediocrity. “SLP coaches’ students as young as 6th grade to prioritize, set goals, take responsibility, to be self-respecting, take ownership of learning, and manage oneself in a manner that will create their success,” says. Appelbaum. Here are a few of SLP’s success stories that are inspirational.
Danielle (11th Grade) – As a 7th grader, Danielle was awarded the prestigious DUKE Talent Identification Grand Recognition Award for scoring in the top 1% of our nation’s juniors and seniors in high school. She earned an ACT composite score of 30 in her sophomore year at SLP with 36 being a perfect score. She was recommended and accepted into the prestigious Harvard Summer School Secondary School Program and Pre-College Program in 2016. Even though still a junior, she has already completed 95% of her senior level courses. She is now in a perfect position for acceptance into top universities. Danielle now has time to concentrate on the SAT/ACT subject exams. She mentors other SLP students which also count for community service hours. This will provide Danielle well over the number of hours needed to earn the Presidential Service Award.
Logan (7th Grade) – As a 7th grader, Logan is taking high school level coursework including: Algebra II, Biology, History, and English. Logan has an ACT score that has already earned her DUKE TIP State Recognition.

Tayler (10th Grade) Tayler has completed senior level Human Biology as well as honors level English and History. Tayler continues to take official ACT and SAT exams. She mentors other SLP students which also count for community service hours. This will provide Tayler well over the number of hours needed to earn the Presidential Service Award. Tayler is on the Sugar Land Prep PR Committee where she showcases her writing and photography talents.
Saman (10th Grade) Saman has already completed Pre-Calculus and Chemistry with honors. Because of his diligent work he will be able to have additional time during schools hours to practice and prepare for the ACT and SAT this spring semester. He mentors other SLP students which also count for community service hours. This will provide Saman well over the number of hours needed to earn the Presidential Service Award. We are proud to have Saman hold several positions on Sugar Land Prep student committees.
